BRENDAN RODGERS has told the media that Allan McGregor will count himself fortunate he wasn’t punished retroactively for his kick out at Kristoffer Ajer.

When the Celtic manager was asked about the incident and if he thought it should have warranted a ban the manager remained slightly diplomatic but pointed out the Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard comments should have set alarm bells off.

“We want the game to be governed in the safest possible way for the players, that’s important.

“I heard Steven (Gerrard) say at the time, Allan was fortunate to get away with that. Sometimes it’s a heat of the moment action that takes place.”

“I think Allan will probably find himself quite fortunate to have got away with it.

The Celtic manager was also critical of the process currently at play within the governing body.

With three referees making up the panel the Parkhead boss feels that there is only one perspective coming out of any decision and they are going to look at any incident as solely a referee.

Rodgers believes bringing in ex-managers and players to the panel could give an all-around better perspective of any incident.

“Is there a need for a former manager or player to be involved in the process to give better insight?

“If it’s just three referees then you’re purely seeing it only from the refereeing perspective. From there you can make a much better decision.”

“As I say there’s been a number of incidents up for debate, whether have been sending off or not.”

There has been early season drama which has seen thugs getting away with kicking players but red cards that common sense dictates should be rescinded were not.

It’s time the SFA get a hold of the situation.
