BRENDAN RODGERS has poured cold water over any suggestion there was a ‘story’ in Boyata not making the squad against St Mirren on Wednesday night.

The Belgian was left out of the squad when two days prior, Brendan Rodgers mentioned know injury to the defender. The Celtic manager was quick to tell the media the player was suffering from a slight injury and they had the players to be able to rest the centre-back with the weekend in mind.

“To be fair there’s nothing in it, I know you would like to write something like he’s on his way somewhere but, no, he was just a wee bit tight in his groin” he told CelticTV.

“We have Kris and Jozo, he could have played, but I said listen you come out and I’ll put Kris in and he should be back by the weekend”

Ajer came in for Boyata and played extremely well. Dedryck is in the last six months of his Celtic deal and will be moving on in the summer if the club doesn’t cash in on him before the deadline.

There was always going to be questions over the motives of the player’s exclusion from the squad with his transfer away from the club being seemingly inevitable.

  1. If Celtic can’t cash in for deidhied this window, then they’re not trying hard enough to source a new replacement. Sounds like he’ll be off somewhere warmer for his wage demands. Hopefully he’ll chip in wae a goal or two before then.
