BRENDAN RODGERS has told Celtic fans there are one or two players at the club he wants to sort out ‘contract wise’ during the winter break.

The Celtic manager was asked about Mikael’s future at a pre-final press conference on Monday and Rodgers seemed receptive to signing the player up beyond this summer.

“Mika has been a great servant for me in my time here. Probably over the course of this winter, which is a busy period, we can sort it all out.” Rodgers told Celtic TV.

“There is maybe something we can look at with that.

There are one or two players, contract-wise, who we, as a club, need to sort out.

“But at this moment in time Mika’s playing really well. I’ve loved working with him.

“His availability to train and for games has been exceptional.

“He is a very important player for us and I’m sure, in due course, that will be looked at.”

Celtic have a few players reaching the end of their deals this summer; Scott Brown, Mikael Lustig, Cristian Gamboa, Scott Allan, Izaguirre and Dedryck Boyata.

It’s clear the Celtic boss would love to keep Boyata, Brown and Lustig and he’ll be open to keeping Izzy there a while longer as back up.

Gamboa and Allan look like they will come to the end of their deals and move on in the summer.

It remains to be seen if Boyata will come around to signing a new deal. The player will be free to talk to any other club come January 1st.
