Neil Lennon has called on the government to get together with the football governing body and thrash out a sensible alternative to the current situation.
Supporters aren’t allowed into grounds at the moment at any capacity but we’re allowed to head to the pub and eat out within relative close proximity.
Given the stadiums are outdoors and there has been protocols in place for weeks to ensure the safety of supporters attending games, it isn’t crazy to think getting some through the door now is very possible.
The Celtic manager talks about the financial repercussions for clubs up and down the country. The more they are starved of match day revenue the harder it will be to survive. We have seen other countries allow some fans into the ground over the last while.
With the furlough scheme ending in October, match day staff members will likely lose their jobs if something isn’t worked out. Time to get round the table and see what can be done.
Neil Lennon was keen to stress the importance to SunSport.
“I was looking at some head of associations on Tuesday saying there has to be some sort of compromise because, otherwise, clubs are going to be on the brink of extinction and it’s not just Scotland.
“There has to be some sort of dialogue between the FA, the SPFL and the government to find some compromise as we go forward.
“It’s very dangerous precipices we’re standing on and Celtic aren’t immune to that. A lot of clubs in Scotland are not immune.
“It can’t just be closed door and that’s it. There has to be some kind of middle ground or compromise we can find to make things better.
“And it’s not just for football, it’s for all sports because some could collapse.
“If they are talking six months down the line, that’s no good for anybody really. Whether it be for football or any sport.”
