The left-wing position has been nailed down by on-loan Benfica winger Jota after his performances in the early stages of the season.
The 22-year old has continued to impress Hoops fans every week, with early calls for the talented wideman to be signed up on a permanent basis being spread far and wide of Celtic Park.
However, during the week, Jota sustained his first injury blow as a Celtic player as he picked up what appeared to be an injury to his hamstring in the second half of the 1-0 win over Hearts at Parkhead.
In the absence of Jota, it is now time for fringe stars to step up and take their opportunity.
One player that could be in line for a start at Tannadice this Sunday is Mikey Johnston.
The majority of the winger’s appearances this season have come from the bench, as he continues to fight back from his injury issues which have affected him in recent seasons. But, so far, he hasn’t shown enough to warrant more starts.
As quoted by the Glasgow Times, going into this weekends fixture against Dundee United, Postecoglou called for players such as Johnston and Liel Abada to step up and perform in another crucial league fixture.
“It’s always a concern when a player comes off injured,” Postecoglou said.
“Jota’s one who has played every game, and he’s one we’d love to give a break to at some point. But it’s the kind of stage as a squad we’re at this moment.
“He wasn’t too downbeat after the game; he was hopeful it was nothing too serious.
“Ultimately, we need guys like Mikey (Johnston) and Liel (Abada) to step up, that’s why they are here at the club.”
It is a good chance for either of these two players to put in a performance that impresses both Ange and the Celtic support after suffering from poor form in recent games.
Hopefully, Sunday and next Thursday’s dead rubber Europa League tie against Real Betis can be the point they kick on to play a key part in a busy run of fixtures for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
