Perhaps Celtic’s worst ever manager has weighed into a debate he seems to have started himself.

With Celtic looking around in the transfer window to beef up their options for the second half of the season, nothing is off the table as Brendan Rodgers looks to bring in players who can make a real difference.

So far, Celtic have been linked to the odd Premier League player but John Barnes has quickly shut any notion that Celtic could land a Premier League player anymore. The failed manager insisting no young Premier League star to wants to come to Scotland anymore.

We must have dreamed Patrick Roberts was here or Daniel Arzani isn’t currently a Celtic player.

The question is whether Celtic can actually get better players than they already have.

“I don’t think top young players in the Premier League are going to leave to go to Scotland now.” the Englishman told The Express.

“They just need to get their mentality back in terms of playing with the right intensity and desire”

The former manager believes harmony is so important to a dressing room which is absolutely correct. But again, Barnes has no insight into this as he talks about the Celtic dressing room.

“Boyata wanted to leave in the summer, Dembele left, so having players who are happy to be there and who have something to prove will play with an intensity to show that.

“A lot of them are like ‘well, do I really want to be here?’ and the harmony is so important.”
