Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi has been misfiring over the past number of weeks. In his last 14 appearances for the Hoops, he has netted just twice.
The Japanese hitman will be disappointed with such a record, but his skipper fully backs him. Callum McGregor knows the quality of Kyogo, and exactly what he can bring to the team.
McGregor spoke about the striker in his pre-Glasgow derby presser: “I always back Kyogo”, he said (Celtic FC on YouTube). “He’s a top, top striker. Okay, he’s missed a few chances, but the good thing is he’s been in the positions to have them. You don’t want to give him too many, because he certainly doesn’t waste too many.”

There are many arguments as to why Kyogo’s form is the way it is. Some have put it down to a lack of confidence, whilst others argue the 28-year-old is not receiving sufficient service.
Despite the inconsistency of his good form, Kyogo’s quality remains. The former Vissel Kobe man has an innate instinct for goal, and that never goes away.
Particularly in big games, he is Celtic’s go-to man. He bagged the winner in the first Glasgow derby of the current campaign, and Kyogo will be eager to make a difference once more today.
A goal or two against Rangers at Celtic Park could truly kickstart his season which, in the opinions of some, has not lived up to expectations so far.
