Celtic captain Callum McGregor has thrown his weight behind Greg Taylor remaining at the club, as speculation grows over both the left-back’s contract situation and the imminent return of Kieran Tierney.
Taylor, who had been widely expected to move on at the end of the season, is now the subject of a renewed push from the Parkhead hierarchy to extend his stay. The defender has been a consistent performer during Celtic’s latest title-winning campaigns, with his tactical discipline and engine making him a key component of Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s potential title-clincher at Tannadice, McGregor didn’t mince his words on Taylor’s value.

“Greg’s immense—one of Europe’s best in his role,” said the midfielder. “He’s vital to our dynamics and a leader in the dressing room. I’d love the club to extend his deal.” He told Celtsarehere.
The timing of the contract U-turn coincides with increasing noise around Kieran Tierney’s homecoming, Tierney returning to Celtic Park has raised questions about whether the two Scotland internationals could coexist in the same squad.
McGregor was quick to dismiss the idea that the presence of one should exclude the other.
“Totally. They’re different profiles but both top players. Adaptability gives us an edge,” he said. “I’ve spoken to Kieran—he’s flying at Arsenal and will add quality.”
Celtic are on the brink of their fourth consecutive title, and Saturday’s trip to Dundee United offers the chance to wrap it up early. But beyond this weekend, decisions in defence could shape the squad’s direction for seasons to come.
