CHRIS SUTTON has told Leigh Griffiths his time at Celtic is over – even though the striker claimed he didn’t see it that way after making the loan move to Dundee.

Leigh’s contract is up at the end of the season – the same time as his Dundee loan deal comes to an end. CeltsAreHere have been told by a reliable source there are NO plans to bring Leigh back to the club next summer.

The striker only signed the extension to his Celtic deal two months ago and he’s already out the door. The overriding feeling was Leigh is a side show Celtic could do without and when he moved out to Dundee on deadline day, many fans were relieved.

He was a great finisher once upon a time and did well in the first half of his Celtic career but nobody can argue he has been a positive influence on the Celtic team for a long time.

I can’t envision a scenario where Celtic want to bring Leigh back.

Chris Sutton concurs, writing in his RecordSport column:

“One thing I’m more sure about is that Leigh Griffiths’ time at the club has come to an end.

“I know he said he still thinks he has a future at Celtic but with a move to Dundee and his contract up in the summer, I just can’t see it.

“Griffiths getting an extension this year was a strange one, getting a new deal in 12 months would be even more surprising regardless of what he does at Dundee.

“He had a bit of a dig at Neil Lennon on his way out of Parkhead and you know what, I can actually see both sides.

“I get Lennon battering him for not pulling his weight. But I can also see the other side, as it’s the manager’s job to make sure his players are doing what’s necessary.

“I know Griffiths thinks I’ve had it in for him as well as everyone else, but I’ve said it a million times, I like him as a player.

“Any criticism from me has been because I knew he could have done better.”

The forward could be great for Dundee, but he’s on the back side of his football career and his next move will likely to be for another SPFL side.
