BRENDAN RODGERS is looking to quickly sort out his defensive problems in January and has upped his efforts at landing his desired targets.

With Manny Perez set to come in when the window opens on January 1st, pending a work permit, the Irishman is now looking for a big-time defender to lead the team when Filip Benkovic moves on and maybe also Boyata.

With that in mind, reports claim Celtic have had a strong interest in the defender Edson Álvarez according to Record.com.

The report claims Celtic are at the forefront for the 21-year-old’s services who oddly enough just helped beat former Ibrox boss Pedro Caixinha to the Liga MX trophy.

Celtic look to have cast their net far and wide after two transfer windows where the squad has not been properly strengthened.

According to TransferMarkt, the player is an out and out centre-back but can also play right back and defensive mid if called upon. The website also claims Edson’s ‘market value’ is currently around the £4million mark.
