CELTIC will play a doubleheader against Copenhagen towards the end of February with a place in the last 16 up for grabs. It has been a very successful campaign for Neil Lennon and his men so far but should they go further it brings rewards on and off the field.
The money is nothing like what it is in the Champions League but it’s still a decent haul should you go to the further parts of the competitions. Here is what Celtic have won thus far when it comes to Europa payments.
Add together their Champions League qualifier money and bonuses: (@AgentScotland)
UEFA prize money for #SPFL clubs so far (@AgentScotland)
UCLQ1: €280,000
UCLQ2: €380,000
UCLQ3: €480,000
UELPO: zero
UELGS: €2,920,000
Bonus: €2,470,000
Group winners: €1,000,000
Coefficient ranking: €2,428,620
Total so far: €9,958,620
So a last 32 win against Copenhagen would land the club with over €10m so far this season
So what’s next? If Celtic make the last 16 they will land another €1.1m. After that well, here’s the list below but we’re not getting ahead of ourselves.
- Round of 16: €1,100,000
- Quarter-finals: €1,500,000
- Semi-finals: €2,400,000
- Losing finalist: €4,500,000
- Winners: €8,500,000
Some might say this isn’t a lot of money for a club the size of Celtic but we’ve already made more from the Europa League in prize money than we would for winning the SPFL.
Gate receipts for all these ties aren’t included in any of the aforementioned prize money. The Copenhagen game is a sell-out and with tickets priced between £37-£42, it’s a decent haul for the club.
