After reports earlier today Celtic were in talks, it has now been revealed Celtic are closing in on a deal for LAFC’s highly-rated midfielder Mateusz Bogusz.
Scott Burn’s writes in RecordSport that The Hoops are in advanced talks with the Major League Soccer club over an £8 million transfer for the 22-year-old Pole, who is eager for another shot at a major European club after his stint with Leeds United.
Bogusz’s potential move to Celtic Park would see him following the footsteps of Artur Boruc, Magic Zurawski and more recently Patryk Klimala and current first team squad player Maik Nawroki. Negotiations have been progressing well, and there are not expected to be any hurdles in agreeing personal terms with the player.
The midfielder has been playing under 21s for Poland but is expected to be called up to the senior squad for the Nation’s league.
Rodgers hinted at the need for reinforcements in the midfield following Celtic’s weekend victory over Dundee, and Bogusz could be just the player to fill that gap. However, the situation is fluid as Celtic are also considering other midfield options, especially if Matt O’Riley departs. Brighton have been in discussions with Celtic over a potential record-breaking sale for O’Riley, which could trigger further moves in the market. You have to imagine the board are only comfortable spending £8m on Bogusz because of Matt’s potential fee to Brighton.
Augsburg’s Arne Engels is one player on Celtic’s radar, but his signing would likely depend on the funds generated from O’Riley’s potential sale.
We know Celtic are a selling club and when players are moved on it’s up to the club to find new stars. Let’s hope this is one of them!
