Celtic are set to win the race for Sheffield Wednesday defender Osaze Urhoghide according to reports on Thursday afternoon.

Scott Burns of RecordSport claims the 20-year-old centre back is set to sign for Celtic, snubbing Leeds Utd in the process.

Urhoghide, 20 made 22 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday last season but his contract has come to an end.

Like the Liam Shaw deal from the same club, Celtic would only have to pay a nominal FIFA enforced youth training fee to the English club. The report stating it will cost the club around £200k.

The centre-back is not well known but has been scouted by the club last season. He’s also been scouted by Leeds, Crystal Palace and a whole host of clubs in Europe.

Celtic need to make sure most players they bring in are first team ready, a youngster from Sheffield Wednesday doesn’t fit that criteria but as Ange Postecoglou has stated, he will gladly field youth players if they prove they are good enough.
