BRENDAN RODGERS is stepping up his efforts to bolster his squad before the deadline next week and reports from South Africa suggest that he’s close to landing Ajax Cape Town defender, Rivaldo Coetzee.

The 20-year-old is expected to fly to Glasgow this week to comple a deal that would see him challenge Boyata, Sviatchenko and perhaps Nir Bitton for the right to be Jozo Simunovic’s defensive partner.

The player suffered a slight hamstring injury at the weekend but this is not believed to hamper any deal between both parties.

Brendan has been keen to add a defender all window, with so many injury’s he has played Bitton at the back where the Israeli has deputised well.

The player will have his work cut out for him if he does sign.

  1. Not sure I understand this. Both Ajer and Bitton have acquited themselves well in the CH role. Why buy another CH? Boyata will be back. Perhaps, it means we are selling someone.

Striker should be the priority. Dembele will be away soon and Griff has been injured.

  2. Now is the time to strengthen, too many times in the past we have been complacent,if we are to seriously challenge in Europe we can’t afford to go down that road. Brendan needs to buy wisely and bring in players that will improve the team not just add numbers to our squad! No panic buys are necessary!

  3. We do have strength in depth, it’s quality we need to buy. However we need to watch we don’t put the youth off by not playing them. Rodgers has got the balance right so far and we all trust him to keep that going. I’ve always wanted a shadow team to play in the cups and certain games in the league! Glad BR has had the foresight to do it. The more mcgregors n Tierneys we produce the more Ollies we can afford to buy??

  4. Shadow teams belittle our league! We need to show respect to our fellow members by playing our strongest team at all times! I’d rather we didn’t go down the route of the EFL and disrespect opponents. The great Jock Stein never disrespected his fellow managers by playing weakened teams and how proud are we off him?

  5. It’s a shadow side by our standards but most would make it into their first teams… Ajer for example. It’s not up to us to keep the league alive. It’s up to us to keep our season alive which means 4 competitions & 60 odd matches
