Celtic and Ange Postecoglou welcome St. Mirren to the east end of Glasgow on Saturday afternoon as the Bhoys look to bounce back from last weekend’s poor performance at Ibrox.

Victory is vital for the Hoops in what will be their first home match since being crowned Scottish Premiership champions for 2022/23.

The home support will be in fine form and they will be hoping the team will be too.

As the teams walk out onto the park, however, there will be no guard of honour from the Buddies.

Although many fans have been left unimpressed by this, John Kennedy has insisted it will make no difference whatsoever to the team whose only focus will be picking up three points. Kennedy said (Football Scotland):

“That doesn’t make a difference because we can’t affect that. We’ll just go out and try and win the game.”

The Hoops players won’t be bothered and while it’s a nice sign of respect, to get worked up over it or blow it up into something it’s not would be silly.

Celtic gave the Buddies a guard of honour when they won the league cup a number of years ago, it’s up to every individual club on how they choose to conduct themselves

  1. If we are being honest Celtic have been poor for a couple of months. We have won games while playing rubbish including a couple of games against them. Same old nonsense ‘the next game gives us a chance to rectify this’. Another lack-lustre performance with big players missing, Maeda, Jota, O’Riley (jesus!), Hatate even Kyogo. Has the mantra of ‘we never stop’ been replaced by ‘not at our best’. I know it seems a bit miserable to criticise when we are on for a treble, but these performances have been the rule not the exception in the last few months. it is complacent. I am not young either and remember years of watching awful Celtic teams winning nothing. But this is disappointing. I hope Lawwell and Desmond are watching and realise we still need better players.
