Celtic have confirmed they have plans in place for a winter training camp, which was also the reasoning behind the fixture against Hibernian on the 9th of January being rescheduled to the following Monday.

As reported by Sun Sport, a Celtic Spokesperson has stated that the club went through all the correct procedures, after Leeann Dempster insisted this afternoon that the Edinburgh side had not been informed of this news.

In this statement, they also confirmed the reasoning behind the postponement, was because of plans for a training camp during the week of the original date.

“Celtic can confirm that its match against Hibernian scheduled for the New Year has been moved to Monday 11th January 2021 with a 19:45hrs kick-off”.

“The club, through the proper SPFL process has made this request with a view to arranging a winter training camp during this particular week, something which has proven hugely beneficial to the squad in recent seasons”.

As it mentions in the statement, these sorts of training camps have been incredibly useful for the squad in the last few years, to go away and work hard before returning to league action.

In a regular season, it would usually be a two-week winter break, with no games to be concerned about but that was scrapped this season because of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the staff at Celtic have managed to find a week to squeeze a similar visit in.

It is unclear at this time where the club plans to take the players but the details of this trip will be released in due time.
