SHANE DUFFY’S immediate future has been up for debate lately with some reports claiming the player could be sent back to Brighton after failing to make an impact at the club in the first half of the season.

Celtic have shut the door on that notion and confirmed the defender is here to stay for the season and will be in consideration for the next run of games with Christopher Jullien out longterm.

Asked if Shane would be heading back to Brighton this month, John Kennedy told CelticTV the defender is staying at Celtic Park.

“We have no intention of sending him back to Brighton

“He’s one who’s in our thoughts and will come into consideration going forward”

Shane could start the Hibernian game on Monday even though he’s been tending to a personal issue this week and missed the Dubai training camp.

It’s either Shane, Elhamed or Welsh who will have to fill the slot left by Jullien in the coming games until Celtic can bring somebody in.

Filip Benkoivic is on Celtic’s shortlist, as confirmed by the club on Saturday. Could the Croatian come in and be in place for not the Hibernian game but the Livin game next weekend?
