Celtic have confirmed on Tuesday morning their midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi has returned to Japan after just over a year in Scotland.

Ideguchi joins J.League side Avispa Fukuoka on a year-long loan from the Scottish Champions.

The midfielder didn’t do enough to break into Ange Postecoglou’s plans over the piece and is the first player signed from the J.League who struggled while at the club.

Yosuke came in at the same time as Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate. Both have made an impact while Ideguchi has struggled for fitness initially, but then fell down the pecking order.

When we spoke to journalists in Japan last year, they were confident both Maeda and Hatate would be great signings but described Yosuke as a wild card after his final season in Japan before joining Celtic was far from his best.

The J.League transfer window is open until the end of March. It’s why a deal can be done for the Celtic player outside the European transfer window.

While it’s a year loan loan deal, we would expect the midfielder to move on permanently next year.

We wish him all the best.
