It was reported last week that Celtic were interested in Lawrence Shankland. The Ayr striker is having an incredible season in front of goal and has attracted many admirers.

The player was shifted from Aberdeen once upon a time so there are question marks over his top-flight credentials.

This hasn’t stopped the likes of Celtic and Swansea looking at the player and maybe testing Ayr’s resolve.

Shankland is out of contract in the summer so it would make sense for Ayr to cash in on him if a club wanted the striker in January but the Ayr Chairman is having one of it.

“Let me assure our fans there is no pressure on us to sell.” Lachlan Cameron told Record Sport.

“We now have a once-in-a-generation chance to go for the top flight and Lawrence is integral to that.”

“If this was about cash, I’d be accepting a bid and sticking it straight in the bank.

“But, as a club, we arguably haven’t been in this position for 40 years.”

Shankland, 23, could potentially get Ayr to the top flight and move on for big money.

The player seems to be a big Ibrox fan and could end up heading there at some point in his career.

Right now, the only thing attaching him with Celtic is a report the player has been scouted by the club. No contact over bringing him in.
