Celtic thought they had the transfer in the bag in January. Even if they had to wait for Ben Davies, they were going to sign him on a pre-contract and wait for him to come in this summer.

Celtic were so casual about the deal because the player was delighted to be making the move to the Scottish Champions.

In what has been an absolute horror show of a season, not even Ben Davies team could have imagined what would happen next.

The defender would come on Liverpool’s radar who had just seen their defensive line depleted further just before the window shut.

They sent ant SOS out to their scouts to find a defender and Ben Davies was the man of the moment.

As soon as the Liverpool interest came in, the Celtic deal was dead in the water even though everything was sorted for Ben’s Parkhead arrival.

Since then, Davies has not played one single minute for Liverpool and will most certainly be shifted in the summer.

Sunday World report Liverpool are closing in on two new defensive signings. Virgil Val Dijk will also be on his way back leaving Davies stranded.

Davies will still be on a list of targets for the club but will the new batch of scouts and a director of football see value in signing Ben this summer?
