Celtic were two-nil to the good on the night against Lille when the Celtic curse struck again and left the bhoys wondering what could have been.

Neil Lennon’s men took a 2-0 lead into the second half and were doing well to keep the onslaught of Lille at bay. However, Celtic would receive a hammer blow and Lille would get a break when Kristoffer Ajer went to ground and immediately could be seen mouthing ‘my hamstring’.

The big Norwegian who was having a great game had to go off and Nir Bitton had to come on when he’s just back from a spell out with the virus.

Without Ajer’s presence, we looked more vulnerable and Lille were soon back in the game after a poorly defended corner. They would get their second with 15 minutes to go when a deflection carried the ball past Scott Bain.

To be fair to the Celtic side, they shut up shop and managed to earn the point in the end.

We’re left wondering now, how long Ajer will be out for as the curse of the Celtic centre-backs continues. We can’t remember a time when ALL our centre-backs have been fit and available for selection at the one time. Jullien is still out at the moment too with a back injury.

Bitton likely next to Duffy for the semi-final now.

  1. Man on the back stick at their first goal doesn’t happen…Ajer or not.
In that position the defender sees everything in front of him and reacts to the sneaky back post runner.
    Good showing tonight though.
