JACK HENDRY has been an outstanding loan signing by Oostende this season. The defender left Glasgow with a point to prove and has managed to become one of the best defenders in the Belgian league this term.

The defender won’t be short of an offer from his loan club in the summer but his future is far from certain.

Hendry will come back to Glasgow and will likely hold talks with the club. John Kennedy couldn’t shed any light on the details of the loan deal and if Oostende had an option to buy, however, the interim Hoops boss believes whoever is in charge come the summer will thrash out the player’s future.

“Yes obviously. Jack came in for a period – it probably didn’t quite work out, he had periods in the team and periods not and then the decision came to put him out to play.” Kennedy told RecordSport.

“I will be honest with you, I don’t know the details about the deal in terms of beyond the loan but Jack was at the stage where at his age and his stage of his career he had to get out and play.

“We had a number of centre backs who were ahead of him and he recognised that and that we had to come to an agreement to get him out playing.

“It is good that he has done well. We have kept in touch, I have spoken to him several times and he is enjoying himself and playing regularly. It was a decision made at the times based on what we had and where we saw it.

“Again that will be something that will need to be addressed in the summer. I don’t think a decision will be made until then. It will depend on everybody’s situation and how things look and people’s opinions but a conversation will take place probably then.

“Until then he just has to continue to play, get the games under his belt and people will make that decision.

“Having spoken to him, I know game time is what he has enjoyed most.”

Hendry may well have a part to play next season during what will be a major rebuild.

The defensive ranks will be low when Shane Duffy, Diego Laxalt and Joe Kenny leave the club after this season is in the books.

Celtic have Champions League qualifiers in July, there’s every chance Hendry will be needed, especially with Ajer looking for a move away and Christopher Jullien out injured until nearer Christmas.

Could Hendry make a miraculous comeback after being written off?

  1. I still don’t think this lad will be much better than he was before, but if a liability, I could be wrong but my gut feeling is to let him go , we need better
