Celtic duo Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty have a new international manager.
The USA spent a while hunting for Gregg Berhalter’s replacement, and after a wealth of speculation, they finally announced the capture of Mauricio Pochettino late last night.
The Argentine has penned a deal with the United States Men’s National Team, which will run until just after the 2026 World Cup.
Both Carter-Vickers and Trusty will be hoping their new boss gives them an increase in international minutes because between them, the centre-halves have played just 20 times for their country.
At Celtic, however, they will look to build up some chemistry over the coming season.
Carter-Vickers’ place in the team is as safe as houses, but Trusty could face a fight for his jersey with Liam Scales.
The Irishman has faced criticism since coming into the lineup last year but has duly kept his place.
A healthy £6m has been spent on Trusty, yet it remains to be seen whether he will be introduced to the starting eleven immediately.
Who plays alongside Carter-Vickers against Hearts on Saturday will be telling.
It says a lot if Scales is immediately dropped for the new signing from Sheffield United, but stranger things have happened.
Brendan Rodgers will keep his cards close to his chest until the lineup is confirmed at 1.45pm on Saturday.
