SOUTHAMPTON have made history as they become the first club in the Premier League to sort out a wage deferral scheme for their staff as the shutdown bites.

As clubs scramble to do what’s best for them and their staff, the likelihood of more financial pain is very real.

Celtic duo Fraser Forster and Mohamed Elyounoussi are part of the St Mary’s club and while Celtic are paying some of their wages, Southampton have been footing the bill for the rest.

This means, the pair have likely been part of discussions to this point with their parent club and as a result have probably agreed to defer some of their wages at Southampton’s end until the summer.

Fraser is on £70kpw at Southampton (Spotrac) but Celtic have been very secretive about what percentage they’re paying of the players wages. Moi is on £60kpw at the moment.

There’s a real chance the two could be part of a deferrals at Celtic as well as Southampton. Obviously, both clubs will have to take into account individual cases and make the right call.
