Celtic have reportedly entered the race for the wanted Elsborg central defender Joseph Okumu.

As reported by the Daily Record, according to reports in Sweden, the Hoops have tabled a bid for the 24-year old, joining the likes of rivals Rangers and French teams such as Lorient and Reims in the race for the 6ft 4 defender.

Whilst Celtic are reported to have tabled a bid, the two French sides remain out in front in terms of the offers that have been made, with them being prepared to pay around £2.6 million at this stage.

However, Elsborg are supposedly looking to hold out for a fee in the region of £3.4 million from sides across Europe.

It is thought that the highly-rated, versatile defender is looking to move on this summer and even hinted at that fact last month, mentioning he was looking to take ‘the next step’ in his career.

Central defence is very much a problem area going into next season, no matter who the manager is.

With links to players and reported bids being placed, people ask who is taking control of these sorts of things.

But with pre-season just around the corner and no manager to be officially confirmed just yet, we need to get on with what we are doing or risk being left behind even further than we already are.
