Celtic’s pursuit of Haissem Hassan may be about to take another significant step, if the latest reports from Spain prove accurate.
Journalist Christian Vaquero believes the Scottish champions will return to Real Oviedo with an improved offer worth around €8 million as they look to land the exciting Egyptian international. The winger has seen his stock soar following an impressive World Cup campaign, leaving Celtic facing a far tougher task than they might have anticipated just a few weeks ago.
Initial reports suggested Celtic had lodged a bid in the region of €4 million, although those claims were never independently verified and appeared to stem from a single source. Since then, reports have suggested an opening offer in the region of £3.5 million was knocked back by Oviedo, with the Spanish club determined not to sell cheaply.
An €8 million bid would represent a major statement from Celtic and underline just how highly Martin O’Neill’s side rate the 24-year-old. Hassan is viewed as a player capable of adding pace, direct running and creativity to the Hoops’ attack, qualities that have been on full display throughout the World Cup.
Whether that figure would be enough remains another question entirely.
The longer this transfer saga continues, the more clubs appear to be entering the race. Reports now claim Liverpool are also monitoring Hassan after his performances on the international stage.
