Celtic have been yet again linked with a move for EPL midfielder James McCarthy.

The player has been linked with Celtic for over a decade, from coming through the ranks at Hamilton to when he’s had down spells in the EPL.

James is now in the final 6 months of his contract with Crystal Palace and is available to talk to other sides.

MailSport is reporting the Irish international is being coveted by several clubs including Celtic. James is only 30 but he’s injury-prone, there’s no doubt he could be an asset to Celtic on the field if he was fir and perhaps help facilitate a new wave of talent coming through the ranks.

Would wages be a sticking point?

According to Spotrac, the midfielder’s base wage is £50kpw. Would he take a massive pay cut to join his boyhood heroes? That remains to be seen.

Right now, transfers feel insignificant compared to what’s going on elsewhere inside the club. We don’t know who will be the manager next week, never mind next season, who would make the decision to bring James in without knowing who will be his coach.

The only advantage Celtic have over the competition is the fact McCarthy is a massive Celtic fan.

  1. Next time they see someone who is any good in Scotland or anywhere (like their reserve team) get them signed to a first team contract. Before they go to anywhere else. Save us a fortune.
