Dundalk’s 17-year-old centre-back Vinnie Leonard has been on Celtic’s radar for a while now, with reports revealing widespread transfer interest in the Irish U18s defender. Premier League clubs are amongst those interested.
Leonard is currently in his first season playing for Dundalk’s first-team, where he’s played 34 games for the league leaders, scoring three goals from centre-back.
It was reported back in December that Celtic maintained interest. Now, Crystal Palace and Brighton have joined the race for the youngster’s signature.
He’s so far represented Ireland at U16s, 17s and 18s level, with five caps for the U18s, with all of his caps for the U18s coming in international friendlies. He has, however, played in the U17s World Cup for Ireland, playing out in Qatar last year.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has reported that the two Premier League clubs, along with Norwich City, are interested in pursuing Leonard.

It’s not exactly the transfer news fans will want to see at this moment, which isn’t a criticism of Leonard by any means. However, with a first-team ready striker desperately needed among other positions, the club need to act quickly.
Wednesday night’s win at Falkirk only further highlighted this. The squad needs a refresh and someone with that cutting edge. The Hoops have enquired about West Ham striker Callum Wilson, who looks set to become a free agent, though there is interest from Premier League clubs and Saudi (Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph).
