Celtic fans who didn’t want to see Mick McCarthy anywhere near a Celtic shortlist to be the next Hoops boss can breathe a sigh of relief this evening.

Having come in and made a big impact at Cardiff, the former Celtic player has now signed a two year deal with the Welsh side, ending any speculation linking him with the Parkhead hot seat.

Football Insider report Mick McCarthy was on Celtic’s shortlist just last week.

At the time we wrote this:

“To be honest, we can’t see where they’re getting this from. Right now, the man in charge of picking Celtic’s next manager is completely silent. Dermot Desmond is the only person right now who has an idea of who might become the next Celtic manager and if he wants people to know, you’ll likely read it in The Sun who seem to be getting scoops from the majority shareholder.

“Football Insider’s track record on Celtic rumours is on a par with Ryan Chrisite’s shooting abilities this season.”

It turns out we might have been doing Ryan Christie a disservice!

There have been over 20 names or so already linked with the Celtic job and we’ve put it down to Celtic not showing their hand at all at the moment.

The people in the mainstream media are playing darts while blindfolded as they try to second guess what happens next.

Hoops fans will be hoping there’s a resolution to this sooner rather than later. We don’t have a big turnover time in the summer for a late appointment.

In the mean time, we wish Mick McCarthy all the best at Cardiff.
