Leo Hjelde was praised to the heavens last season by former Ross County boss John Hughes when the Hoops defender joined the Staggies on loan for the second half the SPFL campaign.

Hughes was a major admirer of the player and believes Leo has a big future in the game.

The Norwegian played some pre-season friendlies for the club but has since dropped down to the Colt side. This is amid rumours of a potential move to Leeds Utd.

Celtic fans don’t want to lose anymore young players to other clubs before they reach the first team. A pathway must be made and the club need to show these players it’s worth sticking around.

Things seem a little up in the air when it comes to Leo’s future. At the start of pre-season there was a lot of chat about the defender potentially making in-roads into the first team. Has that been put on hold because he does want a move to Leeds or is it simply a case of Ange Postecoglou believes Leo needs a season with the Colts?

  1. From what I saw of the pre season games Dane Murray looks a better prospect than Hjelde so that makes him about 5th choice, currently, for one of the central defender spots and he could drop even further down the list if another central defender is signed. Therefore it looks like the B team is his best chance of getting game time at present. He may consider himself too good for that level and if that’s the case he will probably move on.
