VASILIS BARKAS has told Utrecht fans to expect a sweeper keeper, declaring he doesn’t like to stay on his line!

Celtic fans will probably have a good laugh at the comments knowing full well how barkas tends to operate.

Cited by RecordSport, the goalkeeper said: “It’s really amazing. It’s a great honour for me to be at a great club with nice, crazy fans that I know and in a really good league.

“So, I feel excited and I can’t wait to start training with my new team.

“I want to get myself to work and help the team try to go as far as we can, to get European football again, back where we have to be. And, of course, to play nice football.

”I like to play football, I like to play outside. I’m not the type of goalkeeper who will stay on my line. So, yes, I would like to play outside.”

Barkas once famously quipped he fancied himself as a left-back, something many Celtic fans still bring up when they discuss our most expensive ever goalkeeping signing.

The Greek goalkeeper had a decent record before coming to Celtic and was part of the AEK Athens side that knocked Celtic out of the Champions League qualifiers under Brendan Rodgers.

It’s incredible how bad Barkas has been for the bhoys. Ange Postecoglou gave the stopper just one game before instituting change — Neil Lennon had to persevere with Barkas but regularly brought him in and out of the side. His move to Celtic hasn’t worked and the likelihood of a return to the squad next season is very low.

From Celtic’s perspective, they’ll be hoping Barkas impresses and manages to pull up his value so they can sell the keeper when he returns to Glasgow in 2023.
