Celtic striker Junior Adamu travelled to Istanbul to support his parent club in the Europa League Final.

The Austrian striker joined the champions on loan from Bundesliga side Freiburg on transfer deadline day earlier this season until the end of the season.

The German club reached their first-ever European final, but fell to a 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa, captained by John McGinn.

Adamu, 24, last started a game for Celtic in the 2-2 draw against Rangers at Ibrox in March, but was hooked at half-time.

Since then, he’s played a total of 15 minutes in the defeat at Dundee United and was an unused sub in the Scottish Cup semi-final win against St Mirren.

On his trip to support Frieburg, he said (Sport bei RTL):

“I was invited and I was really happy about it. I had a day off so I took the opportunity to go to Istanbul. Of course I wanted to be there to support the guys!”

He wasn’t included in the matchday squad for Celtic’s title win over Hearts on Saturday.

Adamu’s shining moment in a Hoops jersey came in his very first game back in February.

Celtic were 1-0 down at home to Dundee and looked set to be knocked out of the Scottish Cup, but Adamu came off the bench to score a brilliant backheel goal in the 97th minute to force the tie into extra time.

The Celts went on to win 2-1.

He played a part in Freiburg’s route to the final, scoring against Bologna in the league phase back in October.

With his option to buy clause unlikely to be triggered, the 24-year-old will return to Germany at the end of this season.
