Rangers fans have made their feelings clear on Celtic’s equaliser – they don’t think it should have stood.
When Arne Engels cut the ball back to Yang, Nygren was standing between the Rangers defence and the goalkeeper, Jack Butland.
The referee and linesman gave the goal, but John Beaton on VAR did have a check of the goal. He couldn’t find anything to rule it out for.
Yet, Rangers fans have said that Jack Butland’s view was impeded by the offside Celtic player.
This view wasn’t shared by Andy Halliday, who, in the build up to this match was saying Rangers’ trophy this season would be beating Celtic and finishing second.
Sitting next to Darren O’Dea on Sportscene, the former Rangers player said:
“When you freeze-frame it just before Yang hits the ball, I could argue that Jack Butland can see that.
“I’m not looking through Jack Butland’s eyes so I can’t say that definitively, but it does look to me like he’s got an angle over Nygren’s shoulder where he can see the ball.
“I know a lot of people are saying that he won’t get the ball anyway, which to me, should matter. If you’re a football person that’s played the game and you don’t think Jack Butland’s going to save it, you think it should matter.
“But the fact it doesn’t and it’s all about the law. And the letter of the law is, is he blocking the line of vision? For me, I think Jack Butland can see it.”
There we have it. The goal should’ve stood as it did.
If there were any complaints to be had, you can bet that Halliday would’ve voiced them.
It was a massive goal for Celtic and came off the back of some nice play from McCowan and Engels.
Celtic were beginning to get a grip of the game and starting to dominate, so the goal was well deserved.
It sent the Hoops in level at the break, just needing a quiet few goals in the second half to seal the three points…
