Ange Postecoglou has spoken highly of Martin O’Neill, offering praise for the work the interim boss has done since coming back in. The former Celtic manager reflected on O’Neill’s influence, both from his own experience and what he has seen this season.
O’Neill stepped in at a time when things needed settled, and results have improved since then. Celtic have stayed in the title picture, with performances showing a bit more fight than earlier in the campaign.
There have been moments that stand out. Late goals, tighter games, and a team that looks more willing to stay in the fight when things aren’t going their way. That usually comes from what’s happening inside the dressing room.
Postecoglou understands that side of it. He rebuilt Celtic during his time and got players believing again. His comments now point to a similar shift under O’Neill, even if the style on the pitch isn’t the same.
He said: (The Herald), “Martin is one in a million.
“I was fortunate enough to bump into him a few times when I was up there and he was always very, very respectful towards me. What a man! What a great storyteller!
“I’m sure he’s one of these guys who has a dressing room full of players that don’t want to let him down.
“There has been a couple of different moments where you have seen that this season. He’s got them into position again where they can have success.”
That point about players not wanting to let the manager down can be seen in recent games. When matches have tightened up, Celtic have stuck at it rather than letting them slip.
It also shows in the way the team has been picked. O’Neill has trusted a core group, keeping things settled instead of making too many changes.
There’s still work to be done. Trips like Dundee United can be awkward, where the game becomes more direct and harder to control.
For now, the team has found a bit of rhythm again. Postecoglou’s comments reflect that, pointing to a group that looks more together under O’Neill.
