Anthony Ralston could be facing a big decision over his future at Celtic this summer, with his contract situation and desire for regular football set to come into sharper focus.

The right-back is approaching the final year of his deal and, while there is no appetite inside Celtic to force him out, the situation is understood to be fluid, according to Pete O’Rourke.
Ralston has proven time and again that he can step in and perform when required, particularly during spells when injuries have tested the squad. However, his role has shifted in recent seasons, and minutes have been harder to come by when everyone is fit.
Colby Donovan seems to be ahead of him as things stand, with Araujo the starter. Johnston’s return would push him further down the pecking order.
At 27, Ralston is at a stage of his career where regular game time matters. If he expresses a clear desire to seek a new challenge and play more consistently, Celtic would be open to listening to offers rather than standing in his way. Any potential exit would be on respectful terms, reflecting both his service and his standing within the club.
That possibility is closely linked to Celtic’s plans at right-back. The club have been impressed by Julián Araujo, who arrived on loan and has quickly made an impact. Should Celtic decide to pursue a permanent deal for Araujo, the pathway for Ralston could narrow further, making a summer move more realistic.
No decision has been made yet and there is no pressure being applied from the club’s side. Much will depend on Ralston himself, his ambitions, and how the squad shapes up over the coming months.
Whatever happens, Ralston’s status as a homegrown player who worked his way from the academy to becoming a reliable first-team option ensures he will leave with the respect of the support, if he does decide that the time is right to move on.
