Celtic have been training at Lennoxtown ahead of Wednesday night’s match against Aberdeen, with the club posting a photo of one player in particular who was at the centre of transfer deadline day drama.
The Hoops brought in three players on loan before the window slammed shut. Junior Adamu and Joel Mvuka‘s deals both have options to buy, while Benjamin Arthur’s is a straight loan until the end of the season.
Though before any incomings were officially announced, Arne Engels found himself at the heart of a bidding war with Nottingham Forest.
Celtic had already rejected a £14m bid from Forest on February 1, but the Premier League side returned on deadline day to test the resolve of the club, with the most recent bid amounting to a total of £25m.
The club eventually rejected that third bid after much consideration, making it the highest bid rejected by a Scottish club. This sparked widespread discussion.
It’s a lot of money to turn down, but could the club afford to let go of a regular starter midway through the season, especially with a title fight on our hands?
Reports then suggested that Engels was ‘unhappy’ at being denied a move down south. Though the club have been quick to post an image of Engels in training today, and it doesn’t exactly seem like a player who is mulling around the training ground.

Engels is professional enough to know that the deadline has passed and work continues. if anything, he’ll be flattered at the Premier League interest, and maybe even more so at the fact that the Hoops rejected such a big offer.
The summer window could tell another story, but if Engels were to help deliver the title, he would leave at the end of the season with much appreciation.
For now, it looks like he’s set to start against Aberdeen tomorrow night in what is yet another crucial fixture – kick-off is at 8pm.
