Nottingham Forest have reportedly reignited their interest in Arne Engels ahead of what is shaping up to be a pivotal summer for Celtic.
The Premier League side pushed hard to sign the midfielder in January, with three separate bids rejected by Celtic.
The final offer was believed to be worth around £25 million, but the Scottish champions refused to sell during the title race.
Now, fresh reports suggest Forest are back in the picture.
According to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, Nottingham Forest, Sunderland and Fulham are all monitoring Engels ahead of the transfer window opening.
Engels recently changed agents, a move which often fuels speculation that a player is preparing for a significant career move.
While a change in representation does not guarantee a transfer, it has inevitably intensified rumours surrounding the Belgian international.
Interest is not limited to England either. AC Milan have also been linked with Engels in recent weeks following his impressive campaign at Celtic.
The 22-year-old was one of the standout performers in a turbulent season, combining technical quality with seven goals and eight assists from midfield as Martin O’Neill’s side secured a dramatic league and cup double.
Engels will still have two years remaining on his contract this summer, giving the club a strong negotiating position.
That said, if multiple Premier League clubs and a European heavyweight such as Milan enter the race, Celtic could find themselves facing more significant offers for their £11m signing.
