Auston Trusty pointed to the fight shown by Celtic after their narrow win over St Mirren, as the defender helped secure a clean sheet at Celtic Park.

It was not a comfortable afternoon for the back line. Celtic led through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but the second goal never came, leaving the defence with work to do late in the game.

St Mirren had spells where they pushed forward, winning corners and forcing crosses into the box. That is where Trusty and his teammates had to stay switched on.

The return of the Green Brigade also added to the feel inside the ground. The noise lifted at key moments, especially when Celtic were under pressure in the second half.

Trusty’s message reflects how the game played out. Celtic did not control things in the second half and had to rely on their shape and decision-making at the back.

He dealt well with direct balls into the box and stayed strong in the air. Alongside Liam Scales, he kept things simple when St Mirren tried to force mistakes.

That clean sheet came from those moments. Clearing crosses, winning headers, and staying organised when the game became stretched.

The support played a part in that. When the pressure built, the noise followed. It helped keep the tempo up when Celtic were dropping deeper.

Celtic will need more of that in the coming weeks. Not every game will be open or controlled. Some will come down to defending leads like this.

The clean sheet against St Mirren was one of those. It was not easy, but it was enough.
