Auston Trusty has revealed his lifelong dream has finally been fulfilled after representing the United States at the World Cup.
The Celtic defender enjoyed a memorable tournament so far, making history of his own by scoring his first international goal in the USA’s final group-stage victory over Turkey.
Trusty went on to help the United States reach the knockout stages and are now preparing for round of 16 clash against Belgium.
Now, with the biggest game of the tournament ahead of him, the 27-year-old has opened up on what the experience meant personally.
Speaking about finally reaching football’s biggest stage, Trusty admitted he needs time for it all to sink in.
“After the World Cup, I am going to take my family on vacation where I can sit back and come to the realisation that, ‘Oh my gosh, I just played in the World Cup and my dream is complete.'” [Glasgow Times]
It is an emotional reflection from a player whose career has steadily gathered momentum in recent years.
Having worked his way into the United States squad, Trusty seized his opportunity on the biggest stage, capping the tournament with his first international goal.
The defender also gave Celtic supporters a scare after rolling his ankle during the knockout defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina, but he later insisted the injury was nothing serious.
Auston Trusty won’t be joining his teammates for pre-season anytime soon, but will start teh new season with a new sense of momentum and confidence.
As Trusty himself put it, his World Cup dream is now complete. The challenge now is to build on it in a Celtic shirt.
