Benjamin Arthur is still finding his feet at Celtic, and like most players arriving in Scotland, there’s more to adjust to than just the football. He’s been starting games in recent weeks, getting a feel for how things work day to day.
It’s not only about what happens on the pitch. The tempo in training, the demands in matches, and the level expected are one part of it. The surroundings matter as well, and that can take a bit of time to get used to.
Arthur has been involved with the team as Celtic move through a busy spell. Even when he’s not starting games, being in and around it helps. That’s where players start to understand movement, positioning, and how the team plays in different moments.
Friday’s press conference took place under clear skies at Lennoxtown. It doesn’t happen often, which made his answer stand out a bit more when he was asked what had surprised him since coming in.
He said: (Celtic FC YouTube), “The weather. I’m not a big fan of it at all.
“There’s no sunshine, it’s getting better, it’s getting better.”
It got a laugh, mainly because the sun had decided to show up just in time for him to say it.
On the pitch, his focus will be on pushing for more involvement. Celtic don’t have many quiet weeks, and that makes it harder for players to ease into things slowly.
Arthur has been impressive in recent weeks at the heart of defence, but with Auston Trusty’s suspension over, it will be interesting to see if Martin O’Neill starts Trusty or Arthur against Dundee United at Tannadice.
