Celtic are keeping close tabs on Brondby midfielder Benjamin Tahirovic as the club looks to strengthen the centre of the park ahead of next season.
The Daily Record report that the Scottish champions are weighing up a move for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international before the summer market accelerates around the World Cup. The 23-year-old has attracted growing interest after a strong season in Denmark following his move from Ajax last year.
Tahirovic fits a profile Celtic have lacked at times in midfield. At 6ft 3in, he brings physicality naturally but is also comfortable receiving the ball deep and progressing play quickly through central areas. During difficult away matches last season, Celtic often looked too easy to play through once games became stretched physically. Adding another midfielder capable of handling duels and transitions would make sense.
Brondby are reportedly reluctant to rush any sale before the World Cup because they believe his value could rise sharply if he performs well internationally. Celtic are not alone in tracking him either, with Porto also credited with interest.
Tahirovic’s route through European football has already been unusual for his age. Born in Sweden, he first broke through at Vasalunds before earning a move to Roma. Ajax signed him later, but his time in Amsterdam never fully settled before Brondby moved quickly to bring him to Denmark in 2025.
The early signs there have been encouraging. He played regularly in a demanding league and rebuilt momentum after a difficult spell in the Eredivisie. That probably explains why clubs are looking at him again now.
Celtic’s midfield picture also remains uncertain this summer. Callum McGregor continues to carry huge responsibility, while injuries and inconsistency around him became a problem during parts of last season. Tahirovic looks more like a player who could compete physically in European matches than another technical project signing.
According to the report, Celtic have not yet submitted an official bid. But the interest appears genuine as recruitment work continues before pre-season begins.
