Benjamin Tahirović Future Addressed Amid Celtic Links

Benjamin Tahirović is back on Celtic’s transfer radar, and Brøndby IF sporting director Julius Ohnesorge has now addressed growing speculation over the midfielder’s future.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Parkhead before. Rumours stretching back to 2024, when he was at Ajax, suggested Celtic were keeping tabs on the Bosnia international.

Tahirović left Ajax for Brøndby in February 2025 and has since gone on to make 49 appearances for the Danish side. His displays have again attracted attention this summer, with Celtic and Borussia Dortmund both credited with an interest.

Speaking to TV2, Ohnesorge admitted Brøndby would be prepared to sell if the right conditions are met.

“Yes, we are open (to selling) but it’s about having the right solution ready.

“There must be a clear interest from the player in a transfer as well as a clear interest from another club for an amount that is beneficial to us.

“I haven’t heard from either Celtic or Dortmund and I don’t follow that kind of thing to be honest.

“But it’s always good to hear that there is interest in our players.”

Those comments suggest Brøndby are not standing in Tahirović’s way, but they also make it clear there has been no contact from either of the clubs linked with him.

Given his appearances at the World Cup, interest in the midfielder is naturally going to increase.

For Celtic, though, the situation appears to be at the stage of speculation rather than negotiation. There has been no official bid lodged, and Ohnesorge’s comments indicate nothing formal has landed on Brøndby’s desk.

That does not rule out a move developing later in the window, particularly if Celtic decide Tahirović is the midfielder they want to pursue.

If there is genuine interest from the Hoops, it may not be a transfer they can afford to leave until the closing weeks of the window. Dortmund’s reported involvement would only increase the competition if their interest proves concrete.

Martin O’Neill will need midfield reinforcements, especially with Arne Engels and Reo Hatate both looking increasingly likely to depart. Whether Tahirović is the player Celtic move for remains to be seen, but he is certainly one worth keeping an eye on as the window develops.
