“It was right up there, quite a sweet strike. I was just happy it went in.

“That’s why you play football, for that feeling with the fans, it’s like when you are playing in the garden as a five, six or seven year old, you never lose that. It’s so special to give a moment like that to supporters at the end.

“I don’t care how they go in, as long as they go in. There have been a nice couple of strikes recently. It was important we won the game on a difficult night.

“St Mirren make it hard for you and you have to keep going. It’s always a game of moments against them.

“Very seldom do you go there and have it all your own way. We spoke before the game that it might take 85, 90, 90 plus minutes to win the game.

“That’s exactly what we did. You stick to your task and get three points. Hopefully it was a big lift for everyone.

“It was pretty much the last kick of the ball. You play off instinct a lot of the time and you just want to strike it on target. When you see it flying in it’s obviously a great feeling and a great moment for everyone as it wins us the game.”

McGregor’s comments summed up exactly what he’s been for Celtic over the years, calm when things get tense, honest about the team’s performance, and still able to crack a joke when everyone needs it.
