Callum Osmand could still have a part to play before the end of the season after Martin O’Neill offered a fresh update on the young striker’s recovery.
The 20-year-old has been out since November with a hamstring injury, just as he was starting to find his feet in the first team. His goal against Rangers showed what he can bring, but his progress stalled soon after.

There was a slight delay in his recovery earlier this month, which pushed back any immediate return. Since then, the focus has been on getting him back to full training without rushing the process.
Now, with Celtic still chasing at the top, O’Neill has hinted that Osmand may not be far away from rejoining the squad.
He said: (Celtic TV), “Callum [Osmand] is doing really well. He’s anxious to go and is working exceptionally well. Hopefully that won’t be too far away.”
That timing matters. Celtic sit five points behind Hearts, and while the margin is tight, there are still games left to play before the split.
Osmand’s role, if he returns, would likely come from the bench initially. His movement in the box offers something different. He looks to run in behind and attack crosses, which suits games where Celtic are pushing late on.
With Alistair Johnston and Arne Engels also nearing a return, the squad is starting to look fuller again. That changes how O’Neill can use his options across a game.
It also gives him more flexibility late in matches. Fresh legs in forward areas can stretch defences that have settled into shape.

Osmand will not be expected to carry the attack, but he can add a different threat. In tight games, that can be enough to change how a defence reacts.
For now, the focus stays on his fitness. But if he returns in time, he gives O’Neill another option at a point in the season where every decision matters.
