Callum Osmand is making progress but he won’t be rushed back into the Celtic first team just yet.

With Tomáš Čvančara facing a potential season-ending injury, some supporters had hoped Osmand’s return might come at the perfect time.

But Martin O’Neill has played that down.

The young striker has been back in training for around three weeks and recently featured for the B team, playing 45 minutes this week and even getting on the scoresheet last week, showing he is making some progress.

However, his recovery hasn’t been straightforward.

Like Alistair Johnston, Osmand suffered a setback during his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury, slowing his return.

Still, the signs are encouraging, according to Martin O’Neill.

“It’s a wee bit early for him.

“He played in the B team, he only played for a half on Tuesday, which was great.

“And he’s looking really good. He’s a similar injury [to Johnston] at the time. He had a little bit of a setback, so did Alistair when he was with Canada.

“But he’s making really good progress, doing fine.” [The Herald]

It’s all about patience.

Celtic won’t risk pushing him too soon, especially at such a crucial stage of the season and just recovering from a serious, lengthy injury.

But with minutes under his belt again, Osmand is edging closer; he’s just not quite there yet.

Carter-Vickers was spotted in training on Friday, in what was one of his first sessions back on the grass. Although as much as the defender would love to jump straight back into the action, he is still some way away yet.
He was originally scheduled to return next season
