Auston Trusty has offered words of support to his Celtic and USA teammate Cameron Carter-Vickers and has provided an update on his return from injury.
Carter-Vickers has been sidelined since October and has not featured for club or country during the closing months of the campaign. While he was back on the training pitch at Lennoxtown towards the end of the season, a return to action came too soon.
That meant watching from the sidelines as Celtic secured a league and Scottish Cup double under Martin O’Neill, and it also ruled him out of representing the USA this summer.
Despite the excitement of another opportunity on the international stage, the Celtic centre-back admitted his thoughts have also been with his club teammate during a frustrating spell on the treatment table.
Speaking on the Celtic FC Podcast, Trusty said:
“It’s the highs and lows of football. Obviously, Cam, it’s unfortunate that happened to him.
“He’s powering through, has a strong mind and will get through it.
“Me and him have a really good relationship together playing, me on the left and him on the right.”
The pair quickly developed an understanding after Trusty arrived in Glasgow in 2024, with injuries disrupting what would become the first-choice partnership in central defence.
Carter-Vickers’ absence was felt at times across the campaign, but Celtic still found another level when the pressure was on, wrapping up the Premiership before completing the double at Hampden.
The encouraging signs for supporters are that the 28-year-old is already back working on the grass and should have the full pre-season schedule to build himself back up.
With Champions League qualifiers and the new Premiership campaign both arriving in early August, there is still time for Carter-Vickers to regain sharpness after such a lengthy spell out.
For Trusty, attention now turns to the task ahead with the USA.
Following the opener against Paraguay, Pochettino’s side will also face Australia and Türkiye as they look to secure progression from Group D and move into the knockout stages.
While Trusty focuses on matters with his national team, Celtic supporters will be equally encouraged by his confidence that Carter-Vickers is moving in the right direction ahead of the new season.
