Cameron Carter-Vickers’ “Important” Celtic Transfer Warning

Cameron Carter-Vickers has made it clear that Celtic still need to strengthen before the new season gets properly underway.

The Hoops are closing in on Camilo Durán, with the Colombian striker already pictured in Celtic training gear at the club’s warm-weather camp in Portugal. The official announcement is still to come, but the deal is now at the final stage after Martin O’Neill confirmed the forward was due to complete his medical and join up with the squad.

Carter-Vickers is pleased to hear another attacking option is arriving, but the Celtic defender also made it clear that one signing should not be the end of the club’s work this summer.

Speaking to Record Sport, Carter-Vickers said: “I think it’s definitely important that we strengthen the squad.

“Obviously, there’s players out of our hands, but if you’re telling me there’s a striker coming in, then that’s good news. Like Martin said, hopefully a few more.”

Carter-Vickers is saying what plenty of supporters have been saying for weeks. Celtic need more bodies and more quality in the squad, especially with a long domestic season and European football ahead.

Durán now looks set to become the club’s first signing of the window, and his arrival should give O’Neill another option through the middle. Qarabağ boss Qurban Qurbanov has already spoken highly of the striker, calling him one of his main players and praising what he did in the Champions League.

But Celtic still have plenty to do.

There are still areas of the squad that need work, and O’Neill has already admitted the club need a few more players. Carter-Vickers saying the same thing from inside the dressing room shows the players know more depth is needed.

The American defender remains one of Celtic’s most important players and understands what it takes to get through a full season. Injuries, heavy fixture runs and European games can expose a squad quickly if the numbers and quality are not there.

The hope now is that Durán is only the start of Celtic’s summer business.

Carter-Vickers has welcomed the striker’s expected arrival, but his bigger point matters just as much. Celtic need to strengthen properly, and there is still work to be done before the window closes.
