Chris Sutton was quick to react after Celtic recorded their first ever win in Germany, even though the Hoops exited the Europa League 4-2 on aggregate.
The 1-0 victory over Stuttgart at the MHP Arena does not change the outcome of the tie, but it does change the mood heading into Sunday. Three goals down from the first leg, Celtic could have folded. Instead, they started fast and carried themselves well for long spells.
Luke McCowan’s finish inside the opening minute set the tone. It was a sharp run and a calm strike. For a while, Stuttgart looked uneasy. Celtic pressed with intent and forced errors high up the pitch.
As the game settled, Stuttgart controlled possession. They asked questions around the box and from distance. Viljami Sinisalo had to stand tall and he did. His saves from Leweling and Undav kept the clean sheet intact and gave his side something solid to build on.
Sutton summed up the tie on X after full-time.
In truth the best team went through. However a gutsy and organised performance from Celtic but not enough control and forward threat against a good Stuttgart team. Sinisalo clean sheet and good performance and earned his place for Ibrox… lots of decisions for Martin to make🍀

That matters with Ibrox next. Confidence can grow from nights like this. McCowan’s goal, Sinisalo’s authority in goal and a disciplined defensive display all give the manager options.
The European journey ends here, but the performance in Germany gives Celtic a platform. Sunday now becomes the focus, as the Hoops travel across the city with belief rather than doubt.
