There has been plenty of discussion around Celtic’s squad heading into the summer, and one rumour in particular gathered momentum. Claims emerged online suggesting Colby Donovan’s contract had expired, leading some supporters to fear the young defender had become a free agent.
Given the amount of business Celtic are expected to do in the coming months, it was a claim that quickly grabbed attention.
However, fresh reporting from TCW suggests there is no cause for concern.
That would bring an end to speculation surrounding the 19-year-old’s future.
Donovan enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2025/26 and established himself as part of the first-team picture. The right-back made 28 appearances in all competitions and showed he could handle the demands of senior football both in Scotland and in Europe.
His progress was one of the brighter stories of the campaign, with the academy graduate taking advantage of his opportunities whenever called upon.
For that reason, reports suggesting he could leave for nothing naturally raised eyebrows among supporters.
The latest update paints a very different picture.
While Donovan’s situation now appears much clearer, the same cannot be said for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The midfielder joined Celtic on a short-term deal in February, with the agreement including an option for an additional year. As yet, there has been no announcement from the club regarding whether that option has been triggered.
That means questions remain over Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future heading into the summer.
Donovan’s position, however, appears far more straightforward.
If The Celtic Way’s information is correct, the defender remains firmly part of Celtic’s plans and is set to stay at the club for several years to come after an impressive first full season in the senior squad.
