Dane Murray was supposed to start against Aberdeen midweek.
Celtic had travelled to the North East to fulfil their game in hand against the Dons.
In the starting XI that the club had confirmed an hour and fifteen minutes before the match, Dane Murray was partnering Liam Scales.
However, shortly before kick-off, the 22-year-old was taken out of the lineup, feeling an injury in the warm-up. He was replaced by Benjamin Arthur, who impressed on his first Celtic start.
As Celtic head to Ibrox today, they also have Auston Trusty available. The USA internationalist was handed a three-match ban for league games, but is fine to play the Scottish Cup. His last game on his ban is Motherwell next Saturday.
Speaking ahead of the second Glasgow Derby of the week, Martin O’Neill has a positive update on Dane Murray, the player he has chosen to step in for Auston Trusty’s absence.
He said to The Herald: “Dane, he doesn’t remember getting a dead leg. He thinks it might have happened in the Rangers game.
“He doesn’t remember getting it, you think you would do, and he doesn’t. But when he had the scans done, it is like a dead leg, but it’s a wee bit deeper.
“But he didn’t feel it, and the bruising is not on the surface, which it generally comes through to. It’s actually a bit deeper than that. So no, he wouldn’t be pulling out unless there was something up with him.
“He’s responding really well, quicker than we’d imagine now. And I don’t know whether he’s set.
“They’ve all been scanned here, and all of them have been scanned. I don’t think they have to go back for something. But listen, I do think he’s making really better progress than I would have thought from a dead leg.”
Just a dead leg for the defender, so you’d assume he’ll be okay for Ibrox today and then should be fine for the league match next week.
Motherwell were beaten 2-1 by Dundee on Saturday, their first loss since December. They had gone six hours and 26 minutes without conceding until their trip to Dens.
